Viewing the investment change from the perspective of climate change
At the beginning of 2008, the Chinese stock market slumped in the voice of bull market. Unluckily, at the same time, the unexpected snow disaster fell in the southern China as the spring festival came. The electricity supplies were cut off and the transportation was paralytic in 20 provinces; the population who suffer from the disaster was more than 100 million. The direct economic loss is more than RMB 100 billion Yuan.
The Chinese economy ranks four in the world economy. However, only several snow disasters caused the paralysis of national railway and electricity supply, which showed the long-term fragility behind the strong and comprehensive national strength, and we need to reevaluate the severity of weak part in Chinese economic system.
Although there is no direct evidence showing that the snow disaster is caused by the climate change, the frequent occurrence of similar unusual climate in recent years will no doubt convince people that the confrontation between climate and the human beings’ development is becoming more and more serious.
The change of global living condition will definitely influence the direction and fields of infrastructure investment. It can be expected that the fields relating to the energy efficiency, like electric power, energy saving reconstruction, new type building material, etc. will develop more quickly.
The suddenness of climate change will change the decision-making on investment. For the projects depending on the situation of weather and climate, people need to increase the risk-prediction, which caused many projects run into the situation with little value or interest.
Disasters warn people to increase the sense of risk-prevention, which will leads to the birth of new finance and insurance business or new operation regulations.
We should see the disasters as well as the corresponding business opportunity. Let’s use the economic power to rebuild our homeland.
